At least 20 families in Nafugan Pateh village in the Upper River Region has recently benefited from a rice distribution campaign which is organized and funded by Miss caricom International foundation.
The event coordinated by Director Yusupha Champion for Gambia was held at the village Alkalo’s compound in Nafugan Pateh, where the beneficiaries gathered to receive the donation.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Yusupha P. Baldeh, the project coordinator and co-founder of the foundation said the foundation is a US based foundation that is established to help poor and vulnerable people in various Communities especially during this Covid 19 period.
He also explained the main objectives of the foundation and other forms of support they had rendered to people of the Upper River Region in the past few months. Mr. Baldeh further said the foundation is a charitable but non political organization, while calling on philanthropists, institutions and other support organization for assistance.
Ali Mballow, speaking on behalf of the Alkali, said the donation came at a time when it is mostly needed by the beneficiaries as the Covid 19 pandemic seriously affected their lives especially when it comes to feeding their families. He however expressed delights towards the benevolent gesture that is being accorded to them by the donors, while thanking them for the wonderful initiative.
Sebo Jawo, the women’s chairperson in Nafugan Pateh village also lamented on similar sentiments, saying the intervention of Miss caricom International foundation is timely, as the support came during a period when people are affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. She however called on the government and other philanthropists organizations to come to their aid.
The foundation according to the project coordinator, will continue its rice distribution campaign to other vulnerable Communities as it aims to feed over 1000 families within the Upper River Region.
